“I hate the dentist!”

Truth is, you aren’t alone… going to the dentist is not fun even when it’s easy, but that shouldn’t keep you away! We will talk about a few ways to make your experience easier.  First I want to highlight some of the reasons why it’s important to stay regular with your visits. The most obvious is that it’s a necessary step in keeping your teeth. Like most things in life, a little maintenance and attention early pays off huge dividends later.

Statistics on tooth loss:

  •  Once you lose a tooth, you are 50% more likely to lose another tooth.
  •  People with dentures have a shorter life expectancy.
  •  People with dentures take 25% more GI medication.
  •  One person in five actually eats better without their denture than with it!

The reality is there is no better solution than the one we were created with. Tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the body and was created to last a lifetime. However, nutrition and bacterial infections often set the teeth up for problems, and the sooner those are corrected, the better the long-term outcome. More than anything, it’s a game of nutrition and maintenance, so to make the dental visits easy, you want to make them often!

Dental neglect

Unfortunately, that’s a problem because according to the research, everyone is at least a little anxious when going to the dentist, and some people suffer from dental-phobias! At Aesthetic Dentistry of Georgetown, we completely understand. Even more than that, we want to help. We have always offered Free Oral Sedation solutions to our patients, and that’s not about to change. We understand that the fear or anxiety can keep you from coming in when the solutions are simple and easy.  Our goal is to help change that. The simple and easy solutions are also the least expensive, so the best option is always to get your mouth healthy and then keep it healthy. It’s cheaper and better in more ways than we can list, and a big part of it is in eliminating the increased risk medical problems that comes along with infections in the mouth.

There are two basic infections we see; infections in the gum tissues and infections in the teeth. Both of them spread the bacteria causing the issues to the rest of the body if left untreated, and both of them have been involved in a number of other issues like respiratory issues or even cancers and Alzheimers or dementia! We know the healthier your mouth is, the less likely it will be for you to have other health issues on top of it. As a courtesy to our patients, we will be happy to provide a number of anxiety solutions, and all free of charge!

Anxiety solutions

The first and easiest is to simply talk through the part that scares you. For some people it’s a gag reflex and for others it’s the shot. We find a simple conversation will help us to know if you are afraid of the shot or just seeing the needle or if you’d rather have three shots just so long as you don’t have any pain during the process. If you can share your fears, frustrations, experiences with us, we can help make sure you are in control this time!

The second amazingly effective tool we have to make the visits easier is a system called Nu Calm. With this system, we can use soundtracks that will help your brain settle down to nearly sleep levels of relaxation and all without drugs! Powerfully effective, this protocol is a valuable tool for helping with PTSD, alcoholism, and cancer therapy. It is also incredible in a dental office as it helps control that fight or flight response that gets our hearts racing. Aesthetic Dentistry of Georgetown has helped pioneer the use of this technology and was at the cutting edge of bringing it to central Texas!

The third option available to you is oral conscious sedation. Our doctors are DOCS trained to be able to safely manage your anxiety. With this approach, you will need a driver to your appointment, but you will likely snooze through your visit.  Most importantly,  you will wake up with a healthy mouth and be glad to have it all behind you! For the more anxious patients, this is often the best approach.

It doesn’t have to be scary

The first visit often includes sitting and sweating in your car trying to make yourself go inside.  Fortunately, that feeling doesn’t usually last!  We find that most of our patients ultimately enjoy their experiences with our team and after a few visits.  In fact, they come to actually enjoy coming into the office. As crazy as it sounds, It will be the same for you.  Once you’re a part of the dental family at Aesthetic Dentistry of Georgetown, you will actually enjoy the time here. Crazy, right?!
You may be avoiding going because you hate the idea and find a thousand excuses to put it off.  You owe it to yourself to find out how easy it can be. The Aesthetic Dentistry of Georgetown difference will be an experience that you won’t regret! Call today and set up a free consultation and let’s get your mouth healthy and comfortable again!
